One of the UK’s leading designers of timber structures has invested in new software to keep pace with overwhelming demand for timber frame design services.

Rushmoor Engineering Services of Farnham, Hampshire, which has been having to turn business away, hopes the £5,000 spend on MBA Computing’s Construction Designer Timber Frame software will speed the turnaround of projects and cut design time by 20%.

Rushmoor managing director Clive Teague said: ‘Over the last 12 months all UK contractors have suddenly realised the potential of timber frame and there are not enough offices nationwide to do the work. Just today I have had to turn down four jobs.’

Mr Teague said that Rushmoor’s design projects could take anything from one day to six months and that the accumulated time saved on each job would free-up capacity for extra business.

The company’s 10 staff currently handle 200 projects per year, but could manage 240 with the new software. Rushmoor specialises in the design of timber panelled flats, houses and larger buildings such as travel lodges for building contractors and timber frame manufacturers.
