The installation of a 1.75MW Moldow/Mawera HPHW boiler at office furniture manufacturer Senator International has led to ISO 14001 environmental certification.
Before the boiler was installed expensive landfill was Senator’s main way of disposing of waste from its Accrington site. About 40 tonnes of dust, shavings and off-cuts were thrown away each week.
The answer was the Moldow/Mawera, capable of disposing of all waste and supplying thermal energy for factory and process heating, as well as capacity for expansion.
A dissipater is incorporated for load reductions during summer.
Wood fuel is injected into the boiler’s combustion chamber pneumatically. The overall system is computer controlled and can achieve outputs varying from 10-100% of maximum boiler output.
The boiler, fitted with a complete emission monitoring and recording system, has been operating for several months and Senator says it is complying with all legislative requirements and will achieve an investment pay-back period which meets its budgetary estimates.
Senator invested about £250,000 in the boiler, a building to house it and the heating system.
