Lack of space in a joinery factory has been overcome with the installation of a Striebig vertical panel saw.

The Strieberg Compact saw has also increased efficiency at Doncaster-based display systems producer Innov 8 Ltd.

Swiss made and supplied by sole UK agent TM Machinery Sales Ltd of Leicester, the Compact is the smallest machine Striebig makes. Prices range from £7,500 to £25,000.

The model chosen by Innov 8 is 5.7m long, 2.8m high and a space-saving 1.5m deep. It can size panels to a maximum of 4600mm x 2070mm and has a maximum depth of cut of 60mm.

Features include a rigid, self-supporting, heavily braced and welded saw frame, 15 roller panel supports with workpiece locking, a balanced saw and a quiet 3kW motor.

Innov 8 uses the machine for all its panel cutting work on wood-based products, mainly MDF, chipboard and laminates. It has also been used to cut 48mm thick solid wood doors.

Joinery foreman Steve Cross said: ‘We no longer make sizing mistakes as you are not reliant on someone doing the job by eye. As long as we put in the exact measurements required that’s exactly what the saw does, time after time.’
