The Forestry Commission received a commendation in the 2001 Business Commitment to the Environment Award presented in London this week.

The FC was described as ‘exemplary’ for its efforts in creating environmentally, socially acceptable and sustainable forests.

The award was presented to Forest Enterprise’s territorial director for England, Geoff Hatfield, by the secretary of state for the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Margaret Beckett.

Mr Hatfield said: I see this award as recognition of the efforts of FC staff in recent years to put this into practice in our day to day management of the national forest estate.’
