Scottish timber could have a new outlet with the opening of the only direct sea link between Scotland and the Continent.
Superfast Ferries will provide a daily ferry service between Rosyth and Zeebrugge which is seen as a key opportunity for both freight and passenger development. The European Commission has awarded Forth Ports a £12m freight facilities grant for the construction of a roll-on, roll-off terminal at Rosyth.
Denholm Shipping Services has been appointed port agent for the service which is due to start in May. Company director Chris Woolley said: ‘This is undoubtedly one of the most important ferry route developments of recent years, with major implications for freight and passenger transport in and out of Scotland.’
