An investigation is under way to find out why Estonia was left off a list of 107 border checkpoints through which round timber and other related products could be exported by road and rail from Russia.

The Russian customs committee has told Estonia that the omission was an oversight, but the Estonian Forestry Union is still waiting for official confirmation that timber shipments will be possible after January 28 – the day the directive came into force.

Log imports from Russia into Estonia stand at 15-20% a year and Estonian producers say if they were not available it would have an impact on output and increase local market tensions.
