Expansion of the timber frame industry in Scotland and the amount of timber imported through the Port of Rosyth prompted PTG Treatments to open a new £100,000 timber treatment facility on the River Forth.
PTG managing director Jeremy Piercy said a key customer, Woodbridge Timber Ltd, needed a treatment facility in Scotland and the Port of Rosyth wanted to attract more business – so much so that it built the timber treatment facility to PTG’s specification and is now leasing the building to the company.
This is PTG’s fourth timber treatment plant (the others are at Hull, Tilbury and Boston), bringing annual treatment capacity to over 100,000m³.
The company worked closely with Arch Timber Protection to ensure the new facility uses latest technology timber protection products and processes to give long-term protection.
The process uses Vacsol Aqua preservative, an environmentally advanced and user-friendly wood preservative.
The new facility is fully operational and can take 300,000m³ per year.
Port manager, Alan Burns said: ‘From the start we have secured large volumes of timber. This new arrangement with PTG ensures this continues with increasing volumes generating more frequent calls to the port.’
