Kronospan has been fined after a pile of smouldering woodchips at its Chirk plant sent fumes and smoke into the air for more than a month.

The company pleaded guilty before Wrexham magistrates to breaching pollution regulations.

In mitigation it was said that the pile of materials had built up on the site when the construction of a new building was delayed.

The company was fined £8,000 and ordered to pay £12,500 costs.
