The new edition of BS 5268 2:2002 Structural use of timber Part 2 brings the code in line with the latest European standards and codes.
The publication, a code of practice for permissible stress design, materials and workmanship, incorporates some of the European Committee for Standardisation standards on materials to ease specification and supply of timber during the co-existence of BS 5268 and Eurocode 5.
Other features of the 2002 edition include a revised range of imported plywood and the deletion of British hardwood plywood, the inclusion of British grown oak to BS 5756:1997 and recommendations on deriving grade stresses and moduli for certain types of plywoods and other wood based panel products.
