The final result of a Skr500m investment over the past four years has been officially opened at SCA‘s Munksund sawmill.

County governor Kari Marklund and Kenneth Eriksson, president of SCA Forest Products, inaugurated the new grading plant which, along with increased drying capacity, will increase the sawmill’s production capacity from 290,000m3 annually of solid wood products to more than 400,000m3.

Sawmill manager Anders Nordmark said the investments will increase capacity to produce products adapted to the requirements of individual customers.

Mr Marklund said that the plant considered its major competitors Finnish producers and, competing materials such as steel and plastics.

Mr Eriksson added: ‘The sawmilling industry has for years been grappling with major profitability problems and therefore with concerns about making the necessary investments in product development, competent personnel and modern production technology. SCA has now taken the lead in the much-needed restructuring of the Swedish sawmilling sector.’
