Brazilian plywood imports are taking an increasing share of the US market, according to industry newsletter Random Lengths.

Imports of southern yellow pine plywood more than doubled from 66.2 million ft2 in 2000 to 141.5 million ft2 in 2001, creating major competition for US mills.

US buyers are said to be impressed with the Brazilian product’s ‘superior’ appearance.

One major wholesale distributor in California is expected to discuss a potential relationship with a Brazilian supplier this month.
