London’s largest charitable housing group is looking for suppliers of mass-produced high performance timber windows following its recent decision to ditch PVCu.

The Peabody Trust, which has 17,000 properties across 24 London boroughs, wants suppliers, preferably in the UK, to get in touch.

Dickon Robinson, the Peabody Trust’s director of development and technical services, said: ‘The lifespan of PVCu windows is not as long as was originally anticipated and they are impossible to repair. There is also an additional aesthetic issue as PVCu windows are not compatible with existing windows on Peabody estates.’

He said timber window frames were simpler to maintain, repair, provide efficient thermal performance, comfort to tenants and have a longer lifespan.

  • Last year the Peabody Trust built 86 new homes, acquired land for a further 310 and repaired or improved 941 homes.
