Huddersfield-based furniture component manufacturer Shaw Timber has seen a 50% leap in productivity since buying a CMS Giotto machining centre.

The three-axis CNC router, acquired through Rye CMS Ltd of High Wycombe, has also enabled the company to enter new product areas.

Geoff Carr, director of Shaw Timber, said: ‘We are now able to offer a comprehensive high-quality sub-contracting service in tough competitive fields like office furniture and garden furniture.

‘We can also produce much more complex designs than we could previously – the Giotto has made us into a one-stop shop for timber sub-contract work.’

The twin table Giotto is equipped with an 8Kw high-speed spindle and a multi-spindle drill block to maximise productiviy.

The PC-based Osai CNC controller enables programmes to be written off-line on a desk-based PC .
