Robert Morris, joint managing director of the Morris Furniture Group in Glasgow, has picked up two titles in the Ernst & Young Scottish Entrepreneur of the Year 2002 award.

He beat 35 contenders to take the consumer products category and the overall award for Scotland and now goes forward to the National UK awards to take place in October. If successful he will compete against 28 other countries in the World awards to be held in Monte Carlo next year.

Since joining the family business in 1973 Mr Morris has taken the company from a turnover of £250,000 to a £41.6m operation. Its new Rutherglen plant has more than 6km of automatic conveyors, plus state-of-the-art machinery, computer systems and manufacturing processes.
