Eumabois is carrying out a major overhaul of its ‘industry dictionary’ to bring woodworking machinery terminology up-to-date and easier to understand.

The organisation, whose official name is the European Federation of Woodworking Machinery Manufacturers, will publish a new nomenclature translated into several languages giving accurate terms for all equipment used to process wood and manufacture furniture.

Its first edition, published in 1980, has now become obsolete partly because of major technical changes over the past 20 years affecting machinery control systems and due to different definitions being provided by trade exhibitions and national associations.

Eumabois commissioned Dr Dieter Fink of consultants Applikatio to develop the new terminology with support of experts from different national associations.

It will have a more modern philosophy starting from customer/user requirements with re-organised sections for quicker and easier access.

A total of 19 categories, incorporating 600 product sections, will cover areas including ‘machinery, technical equipment and services for forestry’, ‘robots’ and ‘tools and accessories’.

Eumabois hopes the edition, scheduled to be released at Ligna 2003, will once again be the homogeneous international standard.
