Swindon Woodworking has eliminated wood waste problems and reduced energy costs by investing in a waste- to-heat system for its new premises.

The company, which moved to the site after amalgamating with another firm, chose High Wycombe-based Dust Pollution Systems to provide a system to remove wood waste, filter it and then transfer to a high-efficiency burner.

The system comprises a rotary filter and chipper for reducing off-cuts, mounted above an 8m3 silo. Material is then transferred to the burner using a screw feed, with combustion at a rate of up to 150kW.

During the winter, burner vents clean heated air which is then circulated around the factory.

Swindon Woodworking specialises in manufacturing high quality hardwood and softwood joinery which is sold to Oxford colleges, large country houses and cottages.
