The international forestry trade fair ‘Interforst’ set a new record for visitor numbers this year with more than 45,000 people attending.

The number of overseas visitors at the Munich event, held between July 3-7, rose from 10% to 16% compared to the previous event in 1998. Among the 402 exhibitors from 18 countries was a significantly increased contingent from central and eastern Europe.

Themes at the fair included the latest forestry technology trends and the production chain for timber, from harvest through to transport and processing.

A survey of exhibitors revealed a generally positive mood about the future of the sector, with about 35% believing the difficult economic conditions will improve.
