Germany has pulled out of a US$1m project to provide a forest and land fire communication radio system in East Kalimantan.

The German government said local administration in the area had not made the necessary preparations so the aid would be switched to the non-forestry sector.

East Kalimantan’s forest and land fire control technical implementation unit is “disappointed” at the decision as it regards radio communication as an important fire fighting asset in the vast and rugged terrain of the region.
