London-based hardwood specialist Tradelink has established an American operation to handle sales into the US, Canada and Mexico. Based in Liberty, North Carolina, Tradelink Wood Products Inc (TWP) is scheduled to begin trading next month. Its president will be Paul Gates who is currently Tradelink’s head of UK trading.

Until recently, Tradelink held a 49% stake in an American firm which handled its sales in North America. However, the sale of that shareholding three months ago prompted the decision at Tradelink to establish its own presence on the other side of the Atlantic. TWP will handle hardwoods from principally South America and West Africa, but also from South-east Asia and Europe.

Tradelink’s John Lew will replace Mr Gates as head of UK trading.

Meanwhile, the company has been apppointed exclusive agents and distributors in the UK and Ireland for Giorgio Marin Legnami of Fanzolo di Vedelago, Northern Italy.

Giorgio Marin’s products include its ‘M’ brand European oak, beech, ash and maple, plus a full range of L/S and S/E African hardwoods, teak and other exotic species.
