More than half the delegates registering so far for the Institute of Wood Science annual convention are from the architect/specifier sector.
Organisers say they are bowled over by the response since this year’s event, to be held at the Hilton Cardiff on October 10-11, is open to achitectural delegates for the first time.
David Venables, of the American Hardwood Export Council, one of the convention sponsors, said: “It is extremely encouraging. Specifiers are the people at the end of the day who decide how the wood products are used.”
The event’s theme is ‘How does wood help to sustain the built environment?’ Presentations will include Michael Dickson, chairman of consultant engineers Buro Happold arguing the case for timber as a growth material for construction, and Matthew Hoad of architects the Michael Hopkins Partnership looking at timber cladding systems of the future.
About 150-200 delegates are expected. Other sponsors include the Timber Trade Federation and wood. for good.
