Independent kitchen manufacturer Stoneham plc has installed its second Holzma pressure beam saw as part of a rolling programme of factory development and upgrading.

Stoneham, which holds the Royal Warrant to HM The Queen, invested about £95,000 in the machine with ancillary vacuum lifting equipment and extraction facilities at its factory near Sidcup, Kent.

The Holzma is the latest in a long line of improvements over the past few years costing more than £1m and comprising an expanded and re-configured factory site, a Weinig planer moulder, a Biesse, a Sandingmaster and dovetailers.

The 136-year-old company said it looks for reliability and accuracy in new technology to meet ever-decreasing lead times for a spiralling variety of components to serve its diverse design portfolio.

The Holzma, supplied by Homag UK, is equipped with CNC CadMatic controls supporting both full optimisation facilities and individual part bar coded label printing for downstream processing – now vital for Stoneham’s requirements.

It features the patented mono-rail saw carriage guidance system and contactless magnetic encoding on the program fence.

Stoneham supplies kitchens to both the independent retail and property development sectors, plus embassies and the royal palaces.

Managing director Adrian Stoneham said further developments will involve a refurbishment of the spray shop, while a Homag edgebander is due to be installed this week.

He expects to look for additional technology at Woodmex.
