TRADIS wall panels, from Excel Industries, have been used as infill panels in the steel frame construction of the new Sainsbury’s supermarket at New Romney in Kent.
The panels were installed between the vertical steel elements of the frame, with three 6m tall panels used to infill each 6m section of the frame. Using the panels was said to cut construction time on this part of the build by over 50%.
The steel frame/TRADIS combination was specified by Leicester-based architect Pick Everard, who was responsible for the store’s design. Sustainability and insulation were important concerns.
The panels were made by Timber Frame Solutions, of Blyth, and comprised a structure of Masonite Beams, Warmcel 500 insulation, Panelvent external sheathing and Paneline internal sheathing.
