An Antrim-based engineering to joinery company has won a £20m contract to fit out the new Scottish parliament building.

Mivan, which has a string of prestigious international contracts behind it, will manufacture and supply most of the wood products for the project from its 11,000m2 joinery factory, including raised floors, bespoke fire-rated doors and screens, and furniture.

The deal includes fitting out the parliament’s debating chamber with a vaulted timber ceiling, wall panelling, desks and seats for MSPs and raised flooring. European oak will account for most of the timber, but some sycamore will be used.

Work in the chamber, press tower and two other towers will cost £13m, while an additional £7m of work will fit out additional towers.

Work is scheduled to finish by April 2003.
