A timber-based EVT construction solution will be used for a sustainable housing scheme in Scotland after winning a design competition for the project.
Michael & Sue Thornley Architects of Glasgow put forward the design for the 34-home scheme commissioned by Castlehill Housing Association in Inverurie. It is designed to deliver high levels of insulation, virtually negating the need for space heating and keeping energy bills down.
The 240mm deep EVT panels, manufactured by Excel Building Solutions, are being used for the walls and roofs. They comprise a frame of Masonite Beams, sheathed externally with Panelvent and internally with Paneline and filled with Warmcel 500 insulation.
The houses are designed without internal loadbearing partition walls to facilitate future adaptions – made possible by the floors and monopitch roof spanning the entire width of houses. Intermediate floors will be constructed from Masonite Beam floor cassettes.
Locally-sourced timber is being used for external cladding, while the low ‘E’ double-glazed windows and doors are both made from wood.
