A Canadian trade mission to China led by forests minister Mike de Jong is promoting the use of ‘made in Canada’ wood frame construction.
Before departing on the seven-day visit, Mr de Jong said the softwood lumber dispute had shown a need for the Canadian timber industry to diversify its markets internationally.
One of the highlights is a meeting with the Chinese Olympic Committee at which Mr de Jong is expected to push for use of Canadian lumber in the design of the Olympic Village for the 2008 Beijing Games.
