Somerset Panel Centre has overcome cramped conditions in its workshop by replacing a traditional panel saw with a smaller vertical version.

The Striebig Compact vertical panel saw, supplied by TM Machinery Sales Ltd of Leicester, has allowed the Taunton-based company to make more efficient use of available floor space and streamline its work flow.

Co-owner Trevor Butler says it is now far easier to put the largest size panels in position, thus reducing the risks of back strain for staff.

The Striebig Compact chosen by Somerset Panel Centre is a small footprint saw measuring 4600mm x 2070mm x 60mm, capable of handling different sizes and thicknesses of MDF, chipboard, ply, MFC and laminate sheets. It features a TRK extraction system, automatic moving backing support and an optional scoring saw to make it easier for thick laminate panels to be cut accurately and safely.

Stribeig saws are available from £7,500 to £25,000.
