Gee Joinery Ltd of Derbyshire ceased trading on January 6 and its 27 employees were made redundant.

The 138-year-old company traded from leased premises in Smalley, Derbyshire.

A creditors meeting will be held on January 30 when the company will be placed into voluntary liquidation.

Agents are obtaining offers for the assets of the company and Simon Gwinnutt of East Midlands accountant Smith Cooper has been instructed by the company to deal with its affairs.

Founded in 1864, Gee Joinery has been involved with several high profile clients including banks and offices in the City of London, galleries, libraries and theme parks.

In 1997 it won the Carpenters Award for its involvement on The Queens Building at Emmanuel College, Cambridge.

One of the company’s largest projects was at Nottingham University’s new Jubilee Campus where Gee played a pivotal role in developing an innovative new western red cedar cladding system for the walls.
