Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Swansea has won the contract to handle cargoes of wood pulp logs for Tilhill Forestry Ltd.

Stephen Lavery, operations director for Tilhill Forestry Ltd which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of UPM-Kymmene, said between 35-40,000 tons of wood pulp logs a year will be exported to the Nordic region for use in the paper production industry.

The logs are sourced from environmentally sustainable forests managed by Forest Enterprise Wales and Mr Lavery said: “The export market is essential to keep things moving out of the Welsh forests.

“The port is ideally located to service our export requirements and ABP has the expertise and facilities necessary to ensure that our port logistics needs are met efficiently and effectively.”
