Wisbech-based timber importer Swiftwood Imports has invested in Sage Line 200 IT software from MPS which will enable it to integrate purchasing, sales, manufacturing and distribution and timber tally processes into one tailored solution.
The timber tally and inventory features were of special interest to Swiftwood. Managing director Sebastian di Cataldo said: “As a timber importer we tend to buy our wood in cubic metres. Quite often though our customers specify 100m lengths or even various pieces of different lengths when they buy, so it is crucial for us to be able to switch easily between different units of measure, including pricing.”
Phase two of the MPS solution will see the introduction of EDI and integrated barcoding technology, which will help Swiftwood improve stock tracking and load planning to ensure its vehicle fleet is managed more cost-effectively.
