The director of a haulage company has been fined £10,000 at Dumfries Sheriff Court following a fatal accident in which a lorry shed its load of timber and crushed the two occupants of a car.

Elliot Henderson of Selkirk had pleaded guilty to failing to ensure that the system of work for strapping cross-loaded roundwood logs on to flatbed trailers complied with minimum standards. He also admitted failing to provide employees with the necessary training and supervision to ensure a safe system for loading logs. The accident happened in April last year on the A7 near Langholm.
