Growing emphasis on health and safety in the workplace has prompted the Trussed Rafter Association (TRA) to set up a sub-committee to deal with issues that concern the industry.

Matters for consideration range from timber delivery and manufacturing processes at the truss factory to transport to site, unloading and construction operations.

The sub-committee is attended by the health and safety managers of TRA-member truss companies. Some are employed exclusively in health and safety and employment matters and therefore have significant knowledge of current legislation and best practice which can be communicated to members.

Pat Martin, chairman of the sub-committee, said: “Our intention is to become a centre of knowledge and understanding of all health and safety issues involved in truss rafter manufacture and erection.
