Alexander (Sandy) McGrady, a former managing director of Bell & Sime timber and builders merchant in Dundee, has died at the age of 86.
Mr McGrady joined Bell & Sime from school and spent much of the 1930s working for the company in Sweden and Finland. He became joint managing director in the 1950s and retained the position until his retirement in 1982.
At the outbreak of the second world war Mr McGrady joined the army, serving with the Royal Artillery and was among those evacuated from Dunkirk. He was later seconded to the RAF.
One of his great interests was motoring and he was active in organising the Scottish Rally and was on the competitions’ committee of the Royal Scottish Automobile Club.
Mr McGrady is survived by his wife Jytte, daughters Susan and Linda, son Hamish and five grandchildren.
