A new edition of “Recognising wood rot and insect damage in homes” has been published by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) to provide essential information for the professional surveyor.

The guidebook, in a form that can be used by homeowners, has been updated due to increasing emphasis on conservation, repair and refurbishment of timber in buildings.

An increasing desire to avoid excessive use of preservatives by implementing environmental control strategies on decay and insect attack has also arisen since the first edition was published in 1987.

The book includes photos and descriptions of fungi, moulds and insects.
