Around 70 suppliers and customers turned out for the official unveiling of Silverman‘s latest depot in Coventry.

The new 24,000ft2 depot serves sheet material users in a radius of 60 miles around the city.

The site started trading at the beginning of the year, but fitting out with new Prodek 6m racking has only just been completed.

Branch development manager Charles Simpson, who joined Silverman to launch the Coventry outlet, said early signs for business are good. “The local response has been extremely positive and we’re hoping to get up to double shift working by the summer,” he said.

The depot has a workforce of 13 and uses narrow aisle Combilift trucks. It currently operates three delivery vehicles, including two curtain-siders bearing the redesigned Silverman livery.

Attending the open day were managing director Mark Silverman, and Timbmet chief executive Simon Fineman and chairman Dan Kemp. Timbmet acquired Silverman last year. The event was a joint celebration as Silverman received the 600,000th cubic metre of Chudovo plywood produced by Chudovo-RWS. This was supplied through UPM-Kymmene Wood Ltd.
