A new log transporter designed for use on forest tracks unsuitable for conventional vehicles is being trialled in Scottish forests.

The Botex low ground pressure, high capacity transporter, produced by JP Wilson, Dumfries & Galloway Enterprise and John Miller Ltd, is currently on trial with John Miller with a view to using it on both Forestry Commission and private land.

The trailer has a cantilever double bogie system to ensure weight is spread equally over all wheels regardless of road condition. Axle weights are lower than standard loaded trailers, with road damage said to be minimal.

Castle Douglas contractor Derek Cartner is using a 115hp JCB Fastrac to haul 16 tonnes of spruce per trailer load to a landing area where John Miller lorries can transport the timber away.
