Swindon-based interior door specialist Vicaima has invested more than £750,000 in a state-of-the-art warehouse and distribution facility in response to substantial growth in sales.
The company, which will be seven years old in June, anticipates a turnover of about £15m this year and a 30% increase next year. Director of operations Geoff Hardy said: “Since we started we have seen a 30% increase year on year, and it is all down to teamwork.”
Vicaima is based at the former Crosby door factory and now occupies almost all the space. Mr Hardy said: “We started with 9,000ft2 but in March we expanded this by an additional 60,000ft2 of storage.”
The extra space has been equipped with full racking and a picking system to cater for the 75,000 doors held in stock in more than 750 product lines.
Mr Hardy said: “The extra space has not led to an increase in the volume of doors we hold, but has led to better efficiency for stocking and picking.
“We have between two and four 40ft containers coming in a day. All the doors can be unloaded, checked and put on the computer by 11am the same morning and orders are received by customers within three days.”
The large-scale expansion of the site is part of a continuing strategy by Vicaima. The company is a leading supplier to housing developers nationwide and now intends to expand its product offer, which includes UK certified fire doors, to builders merchants.
