Homeowners are increasingly recognising the added value provided by solid wood flooring and timber windows, according to the trade, estate agents and researchers.
The Wood Floor Studio, with branches across England, believes there has been a market upturn for solid wood flooring due to it increasing property values.
Company spokesperson Torben Dal said buyers were becoming aware of the benefits, including a healthy environment and aesthetic value.
A spokesperson for property agent Knight Frank said: “It is absolutely true. At the upper end of the market, if you put down laminate flooring it’s not worth anything – you might as well put down newspaper. It has to be real hardwood flooring.”
A UK floor covering market report by AMA Research says the hardwood floor industry has experienced “remarkable growth” in recent years.
And an Evening Standard article advised homeowners to use traditional materials and finishes in period properties, with estate agent Holden Matthews saying a refurbished house retaining all its features would fetch £40,000-50,000 more than one where owners have installed uPVC windows.
