The need for greater availability of sustainable timber will be spelled out at an event staged by the Builders Merchants Federation (BMF) in conjunction with SCA Timber in Stockholm in July.
Titled “Sustainable Timber: Market or Myth” the event will see speakers representing sectors from joinery to local authorities and architecture.
It will take place during the BMF’s conference at SCA Timber’s Stockholm headquarters on July 5 and limited spaces are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
Speakers include Nigel Hollett, sustainable development co-ordinator, City & Council of Swansea, demonstrating the needs of local authorities for sustainable timber; Hugh Douglas, commerical manager of Wallis Joinery Ltd, speaking on the pressures being felt by the joinery sector to work with sustainable materials; Alasdair McGregor, product/timber manager of BM TRADA Certification Ltd, who will outline the changing needs of architects, their increasing environmental literacy, and the positive impact this will have amongst those merchants able to capitalise on the situation.
Steve Jones of SCA Timber UK will outline the business benefits of training staff to correctly answer environmental questions: he has been responsible for delivering SCA’s Good Wood Challenge courses over the past eight months, staged as part of SCA’s official Training Partnership with the BMF.
An open debate on the opportunities and pitfalls of sustainable timber will be led by Stephen King, SCA Timber UK’s sales director.
