Andy Scott, chairman and founder of A&J Scott Ltd, died in hospital aged 78 on April 18 after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Mr Scott created A&J Scott at Wooperton, Northumberland in 1960 and the company now employs 170 staff over three sites – Wooperton, Manchester and Tyneside – with a turnover of more than £12m.

His determination and sheer hard work along with a knack of seizing an opportunity when possible was the catalyst of his success.

Northumbrian born and bred he was a true character and will be sadly missed by all knew him.

In business, he is survived by his son, Andrew, managing director of A&J Scott Ltd.
