International Decorative Surfaces has invested in five all-wheel drive Combilift forklift trucks, two of which are operating at its Central Distribution Centre (CDC) at Nuneaton.
Since the CDC became operational in 1999, general manager Neil Phillips has been looking to source the best material handling solutions. The centre houses more than 2,300 laminate lines, 750 worktop lines and more than 500 decorative panel and flooring products.
Mr Phillips explained: “We don’t have plastic walls, so the only way for us to go with stock was up!
“The previous combination of forklifts – counterbalance and sideloaders – was not able to cope with the height required whereas Combilifts have enabled us to store stock at unprecedented heights of eight metres.
“Due to the fact that it is also a multi-functional piece of kit, we can save expenditure on other trucks, and use it to stack and pick from all the various types of racking – cantilever, pallet and laminate – in all three areas of our storage premises.”
