Since the launch of its Conduct Assurance Scheme in April 2002, 40 new companies have joined the Timber Trade Federation (TTF), according to president Geoff Rhodes.

Speaking at the Wessex Timber Trade Association dinner Mr Rhodes stressed the importance of area associatons. And he said it was vital that areas locally, and the federation nationally, worked to protect and promote the large and growing timber business.

Outlining TTF activities, Mr Rhodes said the federation would be supporting this year’s Wood Awards and continued to support wood.for good.

The TTF was also backing education through involvement with the Centre of Timber Engineering at Napier University, the Institute of Wood Science and the Forest Education Initiative.

The Forests Forever team, he said, continued to play a pivotal role in environmental issues and was involved in the question of government procurement policy.

Mr Rhodes said the TTF had strengthened its hand with government and later this year would be taking part in a major conference aimed at those in the public sector with an interest in sourcing timber sustainably.

He added: “The federation’s involvement in the political process on behalf of the trade has never been more successful.”
