Office furniture manufacturer Komfort Office Environments is predicting additional export opportunities following its installation of a new extra-wide UV lacquer finishing line.

The company says the £300,000 1,700mm GMD-Giardina line at its Crawley factory gives new flexibility in terms of production sizes.

Managing director Philip Duckworth said: “The industry is moving towards the acceptance of a 1,500mm-wide standard for products like partitioning and wall storage panels. Indeed, in Germany and other European markets this size is well established.”

He said being able to finish 1,500mm boards also brought the product into line with the powder-coated MDF, glazed and steel modules produced at the company’s other factories.

Mr Duckworth said quality of finish was an important design aspect of the line as the market was becoming more discerning. GMD-Giardina designed the roller-coating application technology to achieve a finish comparable with the best spray/curtain coating finished surface.

Two Tagliabue Eurosander wide-belt sanding machines were specified for the line.
