A £2.5m timber transport project which will remove four million tonnes of timber from rural roads in Scotland over the next 20 years has been given the go-ahead.
And with the development of new transport links, foresters will be able to access up to five million tonnes of new timber supplies.
The project is a partnership between Forestry Commisson Scotland, Argyll and Bute Council, forestry companies Scottish Woodlands, JR Dixon and Tilhill Forestry, and Argyll and the Islands Enterprise. They put together a funding package which has been matched by a 30% contriubtion from the European Regional Development Fund under the Highlands and Islands Special Transitional Programme.
