Architecture and engineering students are being challenged to develop proposals for a high profile London development in a competition organised by wood. for good and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). The competition brief requires the designers to submit proposals for the redevelopment of Gabriel’s Wharf on London’s South Bank.

Entrants must design a mixed use inner city scheme that can include leisure, retail, commercial and residential facilities, and be either a new build or refurbishment. All the designs must be based on sustainable development and address the wider issues of ecological and environmental impact.

So far 180 students have requested the competition brief and entries can be submitted until August 28. Entrants will be sent a full design brief with a CD containing maps, images and site survey information.

The results will be announced in late September and there are prizes of £5,000, £3,000 and £1,500 up for grabs.
