Guyana has introduced tough new controls for timber exports to the EU following last month’s discovery of 120kg of cocaine in a lumber shipment to Britain.
The packing and sealing of all shipping containers will now be supervised by customs officers before export certificates are issued. Containers were previously packed in jungle logging areas.
Eight people were arrested in connection with the cocaine discovery.
