A Kidderminster-based pine furniture maker can now sand large components in one pass following its investment in a Timesavers-Sandingmaster Winner wide-belt sander.

Abbie Pine Designs, run by brothers Derek and Mark Blazier, previously had to make large items, such as tabletops, in two parts before sanding because its existing 900mm-wide Sandingmaster could not cope with the size.

The new 1100m-wide machine is also being used successfully on solid oak kitchen worktops, a process the older sander found problematic because the belt would slip if too much pressure was applied.

Derek Blazier said the Winner has made the company more efficient by giving a better finish quality, speeding up operations and providing additional sanding capacity.

It features two sanding heads, a large calibrating roller and a combination head with 1900mm-long abrasive belts.
