After weeks of international pressure the Spanish government has agreed to reduce the bond required for the release of the Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior which has been held at the Port of Valencia.
The ship was detained by Spanish authorities in June after activists carried out a peaceful protest against the timber transport ship, Honour, which was carrying timber from Cameroon belonging to companies known to be involved in illegal and destructive logging.
Initially the authorities ordered Greenpeace to pay a €300,000 fine to release the ship, a demand it called “unfair”, but this has now been reduced to €6,000.
