A research report has shown a strong swing from woodstains to opaque wood finishes during the past three years.

The “Trade Woodcare Market in Great Britain” study by Palmer Market Research found a 44% increase for opaque finishes at the expense of stains due to changing fashions and price differential.

Other findings include the continued replacement of wood windows and doors by PVCu and other non-coatable materials, plus the pressure to use pre-finished softwood products to improve the quality of finish – both resulting in reduced trade woodcare sales.
