One of the largest treatment tanks of its kind in Europe is being assembled in Latvia for large-scale production of Glenalmond Timber‘s Ultrajoist.

The 70ft vessel was shipped in three 50ft trailers from Glenalmond in Scotland to Kurekss Ventspils Latvia and is being re-assembled and modified by Arch Timber Protection engineers. Once operational in six to eight weeks’ time it will have a capacity of 22m3 per hour.

Fraser Steele, of Glenalmond Timber, said Kurekss was investing £400,000 in the purchase and installation of the tank, which is being modified for the Ultrajoist treatment process. The preservative combines protection against decay and insect attack, with water repellent properties designed to reduce water ingress.

Mr Steele said the decision to sell the treatment vessel to Kurekss, which supplies the company’s “superdry” timber, was to help increase volumes of Ultrajoist on the UK market. He said it was easier to increase the flow by treating at the production source.

Glenalmond, which will continue to carry out the Ultrajoist treatment process in Scotland, reports rapidly-growing demand for the product.
