The UK market for wood based panels is forecast to be worth £1.9bn this year, according to a newly-published report on the sector.

AMA Research’s Wood Panels Market – UK 2003 report says the market will expand by 4% this year and continue a modest growth within the short to medium term, reaching an estimated £2.06bn by 2006.

OSB pricing has been affected by oversupply in Europe which has led to erratic growth in the UK. Plywood has been affected by substitution for other types of wood panels.

Particleboard is maintaining its market share, underpinned by consumption in the construction and furniture manufacturing industries. Fibreboard panels have benefited from growth of the MDF sector and the laminate floor industry.

Decorative panels are being boosted by buoyancy in the shop-fitting and furniture manufacturing sectors.
